Veteran actor Chiranjeevi has expressed serious concern over a reported online leak from the upcoming film Jana Nayagan, calling it a “deeply unfortunate breach of trust” that undermines the collective effort behind filmmaking.

In a statement shared on social media, Chiranjeevi said the incident highlights how cinema depends on trust, collaboration, and shared creative vision. He warned that such leaks damage the entire film industry and stressed the urgent need for stronger safeguards to protect unreleased content. Extending his support to KVN Productions, he called for those responsible to be identified and held accountable, urging audiences to “kill piracy and save cinema”.

The controversy stems from a roughly five-minute clip that allegedly includes the film’s title sequence and the introduction of actor Thalapathy Vijay. The footage, believed to have originated from an editing stage version of the project, quickly circulated across platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, Instagram, and Reddit, prompting widespread outrage among fans and industry observers.

Many supporters of the film have appealed to users not to share or redistribute the leaked material, warning that doing so could lead to legal consequences. The leak has also reportedly dampened anticipation for what is expected to be Vijay’s final film before he transitions fully into politics, with some fans describing the situation as deeply disheartening.

Separately, reports indicate that the release of Jana Nayagan had already been delayed from its original 9 January date after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) withheld clearance over concerns that certain scenes could potentially inflame public sentiment.

In response to the leak, fellow industry figures also voiced strong criticism of piracy. Actor Khushbu Sundar described piracy as “organised theft”, arguing that even a single illegal upload can harm livelihoods and undermine years of creative work. She called for strict action against those involved and urged audiences to stand firmly with the film industry.

Similarly, actor Sivakarthikeyan appealed to audiences to avoid piracy and wait for theatrical release, stressing that films are the result of the dedication of hundreds of technicians and artists. He also called for those responsible for the leak to face strict action, reinforcing the broader industry message of respect for creative labour.

The certification body CBFC had previously delayed clearance for the film, adding further uncertainty around its release schedule.
