Fans of 'achappam' fume, controversy erupts over Taste Atlas' ranking of Indian foods

Indian cuisine is always celebrated worldwide for its rich flavours and diverse dishes. Foreigners from various parts of the world travel to India to enjoy these flavours. Recently, online travel and food guide Taste Atlas released its food rankings. The listing has triggered massive outrage on social media. The reason? Well, the rankings mention Kerala's favourite 'Sadya' and 'Achappam' among some of the most disliked dishes across the subcontinent.

Topping the list of least favoured foods is Jaljeera, a refreshing North Indian drink, much to the dismay of its enthusiasts. Following closely behind are Gajak, a traditional sweet, Thengai Sadam, a coconut-infused South Indian rice dish, Panta Bhat, a fermented rice preparation from the North, and Aloo Baingan. 

In a surprising twist, Kerala's iconic Achappam, a crispy, deep-fried snack, and the beloved South Indian breakfast staple Upma also found themselves on the list of least favoured foods, ranking 7th and 10th respectively. 

Taste Atlas' 'Most Rated' list celebrates Mango Lassi leading the charge, followed closely by Masala Chai,a spiced tea enjoyed across the country. Butter Garlic Naan, Amritsari Kulcha,Butter Chicken, and Hyderabadi Biryani also secured top spots, reaffirming their status as favourites among food enthusiasts globally.

The rankings have ignited a flurry of reactions online, with many expressing disbelief and disappointment over the inclusion of beloved dishes in the disliked category.

Major food vloggers have responded with comments like "Justice for Achappam", “Save Achappam” , "whoever put Achappam and Mirch ka salan in that list needs to be fired". People have even questioned how these food entered the least liked category.

Some even pointed out the apparent bias in listing most of the South Indian dishes in the Worst rated category.They have commented "so all north indian cuisine is good?", "People who hate upma should really see a therapist", " Butter chicken is British." and many more..

Amidst the backlash, food lovers from all corners have taken to social media, demanding justice for their favourite dishes. Many have also responded that people in Europe are ignorant about Indian food.
