A month after declaration of KEAM results, admissions yet to begin for engineering courses

Thiruvananthapuram: A month has gone by since the publication of the entrance examination results and yet, engineering seat allotment hasn’t begun. The delay is allegedly due to the government’s failure in reaching a consensus and signing an agreement with the management of Self-financing colleges regarding fees and admission.
The Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE) has completed all the prerequisites for option registration. However, due to the delay in the government's decision, allotment is also delayed.
KEAM results were published on June 19. The discussions between the Self-financing college management and the government are complete. But the government is against the demand of Catholic-managed colleges to increase the fees.
Meanwhile, an order stating that vacant seats in the Self-financing colleges can be filled after the completion of the allotment process by CEE was also passed. According to this, candidates who do not qualify in the entrance exams may be granted admission as per AICTE criteria.
The CEE expects that an agreement between the government and Self-financing college management will be signed this week. If delay persists beyond this, the possibility that students will opt for other states for admission cannot be ruled out.
