Want to join ISRO’s young scientist programme? Apply for YUVIKA 2025 before March 23

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has invited applications for the special programme for School Children, called ‘Young Scientist Programme’, ‘YUva VIgyani KAryakram (YUVIKA), aimed at imparting basic knowledge on Space Technology, Space Science and Space Applications amongst the youngsters in emerging trends in space science and technology.

ISRO has chalked out this programme to ‘Catch them young’. The programme is also expected to encourage more students to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) based research /career.

YUVIKA Programme will be held from May 19-30,2025 at 7 selected centres of ISRO. A minimum participation will be ensured from each State / UT. The programme is planned at (i) Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Dehradun (ii) Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram (iii) Satish Dhavan Space Center (SDSC) Sriharikota (iv) U. R. Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), Bengaluru (v) Space Applications Centre (SAC), Ahmedabad (vi) National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), Hyderabad (vii) North-Eastern Space Applications Centre (NE-SAC), Shillong.

Eligibility: Students studying in Class 9 as on January 01, 2025, within India are eligible to apply.

Selection: The selection of participants in YUVIKA-2025 will be carried out on the basis of following parameters: (i) Marks obtained in Class 8 exam - 50 % weightage (ii) Performance in the online quiz -10% (iii) Participation in science fair (school /district / state above level in last 3 years) -2/5/10% (iv) Rank in Olympiad or equivalent (1 to 3 rank in School / District / State & above level in last 3 years) -2/4/5% (v) Winners of sport competitions ( 1 to 3 rank in School / District / State & above level in last 3 years)- 2/4/5% (vi) Scout and Guides / NCC / NSS Member in last 3 years - 5% (vii) Studying in Village / Rural School located in Panchayat area- 15%.

Expenditure towards travel of selected student (II AC train fare or AC (including Volvo) bus fare by State Government or authorized transport from nearest Railway Station/ Bus terminal to the reporting centre and back) will be reimbursed. Student needs to produce original ticket of travel for reimbursement of travel fare from respective ISRO center. In case the student has not travelled by the II AC train (II AC class), the maximum reimbursement of fare will be limited to II AC train fare only.

Expenditure towards course material, lodging and boarding etc., will be borne by ISRO.

Registration: Applicants must register at https://jigyasa.iirs.gov.in/yuvika latest by March 23, 2025. 

First selection list will be released on April 7, 2025. Selected students have to report at respective ISRO centres on May 18, 2025 or as intimated by ISRO through registered email of the student.
