CBSE Class 12 Geography exam 2026 underway: Admit card, timing and guideline check

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is conducting the Class 12 Geography board examination today in a single morning shift from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm.
Students were required to reach their examination centres by 9:30 am. Entry into the examination hall closed at 10:00 am. A 15-minute reading period was provided from 10:15 am to 10:30 am, allowing candidates to read the question paper before beginning to write.
Important exam day guidelines
CBSE has issued clear instructions to ensure smooth conduct of the examination:
- Students must carry their CBSE-issued admit card and school identity card.
- Entry after the reporting time is not permitted.
- Regular students must wear school uniform; private candidates must dress formally and carry valid ID.
- Only essential stationery such as blue or black ballpoint pens, pencils, eraser and a transparent geometry box is allowed.
- A transparent water bottle is permitted.
- Electronic devices including mobile phones, smartwatches and calculators are strictly prohibited.
- Written notes, papers or chits are not allowed inside the examination hall.
Exam pattern and marking scheme
The Class 12 Geography examination carries a total of 100 marks. Of these, 70 marks are allotted to the theory paper and 30 marks to practical and project work, as per CBSE guidelines.
Map work is expected to play a crucial role in scoring. Students may be required to identify and label important ports, mineral-producing regions, industrial centres and international trade routes on India and world maps. Accuracy and neat presentation are essential for securing full marks in map-based questions.
CBSE advisory on fake paper leaks
Earlier today, CBSE issued an advisory warning students and parents against fake news and rumours regarding question paper leaks. The Board stated that misleading information circulating on social media can cause unnecessary anxiety.
CBSE assured stakeholders that strict security measures are in place to ensure fair and smooth conduct of examinations.
Time management tips
Students have been advised to:
- Avoid spending excessive time on long-answer or map-based questions.
- Keep the final 10–15 minutes for revision.
- Carefully read internal choices before attempting questions.
- Double-check map labels and calculations where applicable.
The Class 12 board examinations will conclude on April 10, while Class 10 exams are scheduled to end on March 10.
With strict guidelines and security arrangements in place, today’s Geography paper marks another key milestone in the CBSE Board Exams 2026 schedule.
