New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is gearing up to announce the Class 10 board examination results shortly, with an expected release date around April 14, 2026. This early declaration is intended to provide students sufficient time to prepare for the second board examinations, , a second opportunity for students to improve their board exam scores without losing a year, scheduled for May.

While Class 10 exams concluded on March 11, the Class 12 exams are in their final stages and will wrap up on April 10. Once the evaluation process is complete, results will be hosted on the board’s official digital platforms.

Two-exam system and eligibility criteria

Following the dual-exam policy introduced last year, the May session serves as an opportunity for students to improve their scores in up to three subjects or for those in the compartment category to qualify.

However, the CBSE has set strict eligibility rules for the second attempt.

Absence rule: Students who were absent for three or more subjects during the mandatory February/March session will not be eligible for the second board exams.

No splitting: Students are not permitted to split their subjects across the two exam cycles.

Evaluation insights: Grace marks and deductions

As over 43 lakh students – 25 lakh in Class 10 and 18.5 lakh in Class 12– await their scores, here are key details on the marking scheme.

  • Qualifying criteria: Students must secure a minimum of 33% to pass.
  • Grace marks: The board may award grace marks to students who fall short of the passing limit by just one or two marks.
  • Mark deductions: While CBSE does not penalise students for exceeding the word limit, marks may be deducted for spelling mistakes and grammatical errors, particularly in language papers.
