National Internship in Official Statistics 2025 announced by MoSPI: Apply now

Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has announced the implementation of Phase II of the National Internship in Official Statistics (NIOS) 2025.

The internships are aimed to facilitate the young academic talent to study and get familiarized with the prevailing system of Official Statistics in the Country, to provide hands-on exposure to the diverse verticals & offices of MoSPI encompassing key domains such as National Accounts Statistics, Index Numbers, Energy Statistics, National Economic Classifications, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Environment Statistics & Accounting, Global Indices and Survey Subjects like ASUSE, PLFS, ASI, CPI, AS, UFS etc; to familiarize the interested and willing students with the Official Statistical System of the Country, with specific reference to data collection, processing & analysis, publication and dissemination needs.

There are 255 internships in two groups. Group A internships will be in offices located in New Delhi, and Group B internships are in offices of MoSPI located in rest of the country. Eligibility: Applicants should be (a) Under-graduate students, having completed/appeared in the term end exams of second year / 4th semester of the Bachelor’s degree course with at least one paper in Statistics or Mathematics in their curriculum and secured not less than 75% or equivalent marks in 12th Class or (b) Graduate students pursuing any year of their Post-Graduate Programme with at least one paper in Statistics or Mathematics in their curriculum or students pursuing Research / Ph.D. in Statistics /Mathematical Statistics / Operations Research / Economics / Demography or any other field of Applied Statistics and secured not less than 70% or equivalent marks in Graduation or (c) those who have successfully completed their graduation / post-graduation within the last two years securing not less than 70% or equivalent marks in Graduation and / or Post-Graduation from any recognized University/ Institution within India or abroad.

Duration: The internship will be for a period ranging from 2 months to 6 months from date of joining and shall commence in October 2025 and should conclude latest by April 2026. Those currently pursuing Graduation/Post-graduation/Research/Ph.D can only apply for the internship slots of 2 months to 3 months duration only.

Remuneration: A stipend of Rs. 10,000/- per month will be paid to the selected interns. If any intern leaves or discontinues the internship in between (before completion of given time-period for the internship), he / she will not be entitled for any stipend / certificate. A certificate will be issued to the successful interns, on completion of their internship, by the respective offices where they are attached. Each intern shall be required to submit report/paper (along with soft copy) at the end of the assignment, including interalia, his/her observations and suggestions, if any, regarding any possible improvement in the system.

Application: One may apply for an internship opportunity in either Group ‘A’ or Group ‘B’, but not both. Applicant should fill in the form for Group ‘A’ or Group ‘B’ at https://internship.mospi.gov.in, latest by 30th September 2025.

Selection: The selection of interns would be done by Training Unit, Capacity Development Division, MoSPI for Group A and by respective Regional Heads of ROs of NSO (FOD) for ROs, ZOs, DESs and other internship centres located in that particular city for Group B.

Selection of the candidates will be done through the online portal on the basis of the aggregate marks obtained in 12th or equivalent/graduation/post - graduation (excluding qualifying subject(s)), as applicable. Allocation of internship office will be done taking into account the above selection criterion and the place option exercised by the candidates.
