India’s SUV market is preparing for a busy December, with several significant launches scheduled across electric, petrol and next-generation segments. Maruti Suzuki will introduce its first electric vehicle, the E Vitara, Tata Motors will roll out new petrol variants of the Safari and Harrier, and the second-generation Kia Seltos will make its global debut in Korea.

Maruti Suzuki to launch E Vitara in December

Maruti Suzuki will enter the mass electric vehicle space with the launch of the E Vitara in December 2025. The SUV features a sharp, modern design similar to the version showcased at the Bharat Mobility Expo.

It is expected to be offered with 49 kWh and 61 kWh BYD LFP-based battery packs, with the larger battery capable of delivering a claimed range of up to 500 km on a single charge, based on the configuration sold in Britain. Both 2WD and 4WD options are expected.

The E Vitara marks a key milestone for Maruti Suzuki as it works to strengthen its presence in India’s rapidly expanding EV market.

Tata Safari and Harrier to receive new petrol engines

Tata Motors will introduce petrol versions of the Safari and Harrier on 9 December 2025.

Both SUVs, previously available only with diesel engines in their current generations, will be powered by a 1.5-litre TGDi turbo-petrol engine, first showcased at Auto Expo 2023.

The engine is expected to produce around 170 bhp and 280 Nm, and will be shared across both models.

The addition of petrol options is aimed at widening Tata’s SUV line-up as demand for petrol mid-size SUVs continues to grow.

Second-generation Kia Seltos to debut globally on 10 December

The second-generation Kia Seltos will make its global debut in Korea on 10 December 2025, following multiple sightings of test vehicles in India and abroad.

The new model will adopt styling cues from larger Kia SUVs such as the EV9, including a redesigned front end and updated proportions.

Inside, major changes are expected, such as a larger touchscreen infotainment system, fully digital instrument cluster, new ambient lighting, connected car technology, ventilated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof. Safety upgrades are also anticipated, including six airbags and automatic climate control.

Its India launch is expected in early 2026.

A pivotal month for India’s SUV segment

These upcoming launches reflect the strong momentum within India’s SUV market, where consumer demand continues to expand across electric, petrol and premium categories. With major upgrades and new technologies arriving in December 2025, automakers are preparing to tap into one of the country’s fastest-growing automotive segments.
