Kochi: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is preparing to pursue further legal action based on the Hema Committee report. The team also plans to file a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. They have decided to proceed with the case without re-taking statements from the complainants.
The report includes over 20 serious statements that warrant further investigation. The team will file cases based on the interests of those who provided these statements. If new statements are received, the team has agreed to go forward with legal action.
Legal action planned based on findings
The original Hema Committee report is extensive, spanning 3,896 pages. The investigation team will collaborate with the Culture Department or the Hema Committee members to identify individuals whose full names and addresses are not mentioned in the report.
The statements collected by the Hema Committee have been shared with the SIT but no copies are allowed. Reports indicate that not all team members received access to the complete statement.
Full report submitted
The complete, unredacted version of the Hema Committee report was submitted to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) as directed by the Kerala High Court. The government had handed over the full report to SIT head and Crime Branch Chief H Venkatesh.
The High Court had also instructed the government to file an affidavit detailing the actions the SIT plans to take concerning the report. The Court will review the Hema Committee report only after receiving this affidavit and will revisit the matter on October 3. It had also ordered that the full report be provided to the investigation team, while considering petitions demanding action on the crimes, including sexual assault, mentioned in the report. The High Court had also directed Advocate General K Gopalakrishna Kurup to notify the government about the need for a strong follow-up on the report.
