Kozhikode: A fire broke out on a boat in the Beypore harbour and two fishermen were injured. The injured men, Tajul Akbar and Rafeeq, natives of Lakshadweep, suffered severe burns and were admitted to the Medical College Hospital in Kozhikode. Both sustained over 70 percent injuries and the boat was completely destroyed in the fire.
The incident occurred around 11:45 p.m. on Saturday night on a boat named ‘Ahal Fisheries.’ The fire reportedly started from the boat's engine. The boat was set for a fishing trip early Sunday morning.
Gas cylinders on the boat exploded with a loud thud, causing the fire to spread due to the fuel onboard. The flames reached the shore causing panic, and the nearby boats were moved to safer locations. The boat involved in the accident was completely burnt down.
The boat had arrived in Beypore just two days before the incident. Firefighters from Meenchanda, Beach, Narikkuni, and Mukkom reached to take stock of the situation.
