A few weeks ago, the UK-based smartphone manufacturer Nothing offered a glimpse of its next-generation operating system, Nothing OS 4.0, which is built on Android 16. The preview was shared during the launch event for the brand’s current flagship, the Nothing Phone 3. Shortly after, a post on the Nothing Community forum confirmed that the first Closed Beta version of the new OS had begun rolling out to Nothing Phone 3 users. Now, the company has announced that the stable version is on the verge of being released.

Nothing OS 4.0 launch timeframe

Nothing took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce that the stable rollout of Nothing OS 4.0, based on Android 16, will commence shortly.

The post read, “Nothing OS 4.0 Refined. Redefined. Coming soon.” The post also offered a sneak peek into the refreshed user interface, highlighting redesigned icons expected with this update.

Nothing OS 4.0 new features

One of the prominent changes is a circular torch icon featuring a red torchlight design. Additional widgets, such as the Bluetooth toggle, dark mode switch, brightness adjustment, and other controls, are likely to follow this circular iconography. The teaser also showcased several undefined circular icons, including one with an umbrella symbol and another resembling a wheel.

Nothing OS 4.0 supported devices

Nothing CEO Carl Pei confirmed that the rollout for eligible devices would begin in Autumn this year. This recent update suggests that the stable version could be launched within this month.

It’s important to note that the Nothing Phone 1 will not be receiving the update as it has reached the end of its software support period. Devices confirmed to be eligible for Nothing OS 4.0 include the Nothing Phone 2, Phone 2a series, Phone 3a series, and Phone 3, as well as select CMF smartphones.
