Apple to launch new affordable iPhone 17e this month: Reports

In a major announcement that could reshape Apple’s budget iPhone lineup, reports suggest the company is preparing to unveil its next affordable iPhone, dubbed the iPhone 17e, later this month. While Apple has yet to confirm any details, the device is widely expected to succeed the iPhone 16e and make its debut in February 2026.
iPhone 17e Launch Timeline (Expected)
According to a report by German publication Macwelt, citing unnamed sources, Apple is planning to announce the iPhone 17e on February 19. Notably, this date совпides with the launch anniversary of the iPhone 16e, which was introduced on February 19, 2025. The timeline also supports earlier leaks that pointed to a first-quarter 2026 launch. As with previous “e” series models, Apple may opt for a quiet launch via press release rather than a full-scale event.

Familiar design likely to continue
The report suggests that Apple is unlikely to introduce major design changes with the iPhone 17e. The upcoming model is expected to retain the same design language as the iPhone 16e, including a notch housing the front camera and Face ID sensors. Earlier rumours about bringing Dynamic Island to the affordable lineup now appear improbable, as Apple is expected to reserve the feature for its premium models.

Single Rear Camera
In line with Apple’s strategy for its entry-level devices, the camera setup is expected to remain unchanged. The iPhone 17e may continue to feature a single rear camera, prioritising simplicity and cost control rather than adding multiple lenses.

One notable upgrade could arrive in the form of MagSafe support. The report claims Apple may move away from basic Qi wireless charging, which on the iPhone 16e is limited to 7.5W, and introduce MagSafe on the iPhone 17e. If true, this would allow wireless charging speeds of up to 25W, offering a faster and more convenient charging experience.
In a separate development, reports have emerged claiming that Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro Max could receive a modest but meaningful battery upgrade, with leaks suggesting a higher-capacity unit than its predecessor when the phone is unveiled, likely in September.
According to a new leak, Apple may use different battery capacities for regional variants of the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Tipster Digital Chat Station, citing supply-chain sources, claims that the China-specific model will pack a 5,000mAh battery, while the international version could feature a larger cell rated between 5,100mAh and 5,200mAh. If accurate, this would mark an improvement over the iPhone 17 Pro Max, which is believed to house a 5,088mAh battery.
The leaker adds that battery efficiency on the iPhone 18 Pro Max could see further gains thanks to Apple’s rumoured 2nm A20 Pro chipset, which is expected to offer better power management than previous-generation chips. Combined, the denser battery and new processor could translate into longer real-world usage.
