Missed saving a reel? Instagram’s watch history has you covered

New Delhi: Ever watched a Reel on Instagram and instantly wished you had saved it, only to lose track of it later? Instagram is solving that frustration with its new Watch History feature, allowing users to easily revisit previously viewed Reels.
The update, announced by Instagram head Adam Mosseri, is rolling out in the latest app version and is already being spotted by users across India and other regions. Until now, users had to rely on workarounds like liking a video or sharing it to themselves to keep track of interesting content. Watch History removes the guesswork.
How It Works
Accessing the feature is simple:
- Go to your profile
- Tap the three-line menu
- Select Settings
- Your Activity
- Watch History
From there, users can see all the Reels they’ve watched, with handy sorting and filtering options:
- Sort by date watched, either newest to oldest or oldest to newest
- Narrow down by a specific date or range of dates
- Filter by the account that posted the Reel
These options make it easier to find videos from favourite creators or locate that one Reel you watched a few days ago but forgot to save.
Why it matters
Instagram Reels have become a major source of entertainment, education, and inspiration. For users who watch dozens of Reels daily, the new feature promises a much-needed way to keep track of content without relying on likes or personal archives.
While users who consume high volumes of Reels may still have long lists to navigate, the Watch History feature is expected to simplify content discovery for the majority of Instagram users.
The feature is included in the main Instagram app and is free to use, rolling out automatically with updates.
