Browsing the web in India? Chrome’s new AI features may help

New Delhi: Google on Wednesday announced the rollout of built-in Artificial Intelligence (AI) features in the Chrome browser for users across India, aiming to make web browsing more intuitive, secure and productive.
The technology giant said the update introduces several AI-powered tools in Google Chrome, including the integration of Gemini in Chrome, designed to help users search, understand and interact with online information more efficiently.
Support for 50+ languages, including Indic languages
As part of the rollout, Google Chrome AI features in India will support more than 50 languages, including several Indic languages such as Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu and Tamil.
“Google today announced it is bringing many of Chrome’s latest AI features, including Gemini in Chrome, to users across India,” the company said in a statement.
The features are powered by Google’s Gemini 3.1 AI model, which aims to improve how users browse, learn and perform tasks online.
Initially, the AI-powered Chrome tools will be available on desktop and iOS platforms.

AI assistant built directly into the Chrome browser
According to Charmaine Dsilva, Director of Product Management for Chrome at Google, the new integration reflects the company’s vision to enhance the everyday browsing experience.
“The browser is where we get work done, learn new things and connect with the world. With AI built directly into Chrome, we’re aiming to make browsing the web even more intuitive, secure and helpful,” Dsilva said.
She added that India is among the first markets to receive these new Chrome AI capabilities after the United States, highlighting the country’s growing role in the global AI and technology ecosystem.
Chat with AI without leaving your tab
One of the key features of Gemini in Chrome is a built-in AI browsing assistant that allows users to chat with AI without switching tabs.
Users can access the assistant by clicking the icon located at the top-right corner of the browser tab, enabling them to ask questions or get assistance while continuing their work.
The AI tool can help with tasks such as:
- Summarising long web pages or articles
- Creating study tools like pop quizzes
- Remembering previously visited pages
- Helping users manage multiple browser tabs more efficiently

Gmail integration for faster communication
The AI-powered Chrome update also integrates with Gmail, allowing users to compose and send emails directly from the browser without leaving the current webpage.
By opening the side panel and requesting the action, users can ask the AI assistant to draft an email. After reviewing and making edits, the message can be sent with a single click.
