Samsung Electronics on Wednesday unveiled its latest Galaxy Z8 foldable smartphone lineup, introducing the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8 with thinner and lighter designs, larger displays and Gemini AI-powered features. Customers in India can pre-order the devices, while sales are scheduled to begin early next month.

The new lineup offers three different foldable form factors aimed at different users. Samsung said the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is designed to deliver maximum productivity and an immersive content experience, while the Galaxy Z Fold8, comparable in size to a passport, offers a redesigned foldable experience with a reduced display crease and a focus on productivity.

The Galaxy Z Flip8, described by Samsung as its sleekest flip smartphone yet, has been designed for self-expression and quick interactions while on the move. The company said its AI-powered FlexWindow gives users faster access to relevant information and shortcuts without needing to fully open the device.

Across the lineup, Samsung has focused on improving multitasking through larger displays on the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. The company also highlighted Gemini AI features that can help users complete tasks more efficiently while maintaining an emphasis on privacy.

"As AI becomes more agentic, mobile devices will become the most personal entry point to experiences that understand and adapt to each user," said T M Roh, Chief Executive Officer, President and Head of the Device eXperience (DX) Division at Samsung Electronics.

Samsung said its display engineering advances have enabled slimmer designs, improved durability and a more seamless viewing experience across the Galaxy Z8 series. The new Flex Titanium technology uses a titanium-based display structure to make the foldable devices thinner while maintaining durability.

According to the company, the technology also improves the unfolding experience by optimising hinge mechanics, display tension and magnetic force.

Samsung said the Galaxy Z Fold8 is the thinnest and lightest device in the Galaxy Z Fold series so far.

The Galaxy Z Fold series, first introduced in 2019, has now entered its eighth generation and established a niche in the foldable smartphone market. Samsung now faces increasing competition in the segment from manufacturers including Vivo and Motorola. In India, the company also competes with Apple in the super-premium smartphone category.
