Indian women’s cricket star Smriti Mandhana’s wedding celebrations have been further disrupted after her fiancé, Palash Muchhal, was taken to hospital for treatment, according to NDTV.

The medical emergency comes a day after Smriti’s father, Srinivas Mandhana, was hospitalised following heart attack-like symptoms, which had already forced the postponement of the couple’s nuptials in Sangli, Maharashtra.

NDTV reported that Palash was admitted to a private hospital for a viral infection and increased acidity. His condition, however, was not serious, and he has since received treatment and returned to the hotel.

Dr Naman Shah, the family doctor, said that Smriti’s father continues to be closely monitored. “Blood pressure is also elevated, efforts are on to lower it. The whole team is monitoring. If situation exacerbates, we will have to do angiography. Smriti and her family are in contact with us,” he told PTI.

A week-long celebration had already been underway in the couple’s hometown, but with the health issues affecting both her father and now her fiancé, the remaining wedding rituals have been postponed indefinitely, with the schedule now dependent on the progress of her father’s recovery.
