Sahal's move to Mohun Bagan shows Blasters' new transfer policy

Kozhikode: The unique transfer policy of Kerala Blasters has raised eyebrows among supporters and rivals alike. The choice to trade a crucial player like Sahal Abdul Samad to a rival club like Mohun Bagan highlights the Kerala side's revised transfer policy.
Sahal, who came up via the Blasters' reserve team, joins Kolkata after becoming one of the most sought-after players in the Indian Super League. The Kolkata club came knocking on Blasters' door with an offer allegedly worth Rs 2.5 crores for Sahal. Additionally, Blasters have received their captain Pritam Kotal in a player+cash exchange deal.
After all, pundits and fans view the deal as a significant move from Blasters, unlike its past decision to sign players for a season and not renew their contracts. The decision to renew the contract of midfielder Adrian Luna for two more years also signals the club's intention to build a core team for the future.
Earlier, sporting director Karolis Skinkys had expressed the club's ambition to invest more in youth development and promote players from the academies. The introduction of academy prodigies like Sachil Suresh, Nihal Sudheesh, Muhammed Ahsar, Vibin Mohan and Muhammed Aiman into the senior side is part of the club's long-term strategy.
