Sunderland: Sunderland vs West Ham saw Sunderland mark their Premier League return in style with a convincing 3-0 victory at the Stadium of Light.

With a lively home crowd behind them, Sunderland broke the deadlock in the 61st minute when Eliezer Mayenda met a diagonal cross from Omar Alderete, timing his jump perfectly to head the ball down and inside the left post. Just twelve minutes later, Sunderland doubled their lead as Dan Ballard rose to meet another cross, powering his header past West Ham’s goalkeeper in the 73rd minute.

West Ham, despite controlling much of the possession during the first half, found themselves unable to convert their chances. Their best opportunities included early attempts from Jarrod Bowen, but Sunderland’s keeper Robin Roefs was equal to the task. Defensive blocks from Ballard and Reinildo kept the away side at bay.

Sunderland capped off their performance in stoppage time, with substitute Wilson Isidor racing clear and finishing from distance in the 90+2nd minute to make it 3-0. The Black Cats’ defence and incisive attack proved too strong for the visitors, securing three points on their top-flight return for the first time since 2017.

The result from Sunderland vs West Ham leaves Sunderland top of the table after the opening weekend, while West Ham is left looking for answers after a tough start to their campaign.
