South Africa kept their Women’s World Cup 2025 campaign alive with a thrilling three-wicket victory over Bangladesh at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Monday, October 13. 

Batting first, Bangladesh posted 232 for six in 50 overs. Openers Fargana Hoque (30 off 76 balls) and Rubya Haider (25 off 52) added 53 runs for the first wicket before both were dismissed in the span of eight overs.

Sharmin Akhter (50 off 77) and skipper Nigar Sultana (32 off 42) stabilised the innings with a 77-run partnership. Later, Shorna Akter’s quick 51 not out and Ritu Moni’s 19-run cameo helped Bangladesh reach a competitive total.

South Africa’s rollercoaster chase

South Africa had a disastrous start, losing Tazmin Brits for a duck and quickly falling to 78 for five. Laura Wolvaardt (31 off 56) and Anneke Bosch (28 off 35) had earlier added a 55-run partnership, but wickets kept tumbling.

Kapp and Tryon rescue Proteas

Marizanne Kapp (57 off 71) and Chloe Tryon (62 off 69) then stitched an 85-run partnership, almost sealing victory. Both fell in quick succession, leaving the match finely poised.

Nadine de Klerk seals win

With Bangladesh mounting a late comeback, Nadine de Klerk held her nerve, scoring 37 not out off 29 balls to guide South Africa home with three wickets to spare, ensuring their second consecutive win in the tournament.
