Galle: Bangladesh continued its stronghold over Sri Lanka on the second day of the first Test match, posting a commanding 484 for nine. The visitors resumed their innings at 292 for three, with Mushfiqur Rahim and Najmul Hossain Shanto extending their record-breaking partnership.

Shanto played a fluent innings, scoring 148 off 279 balls with 15 boundaries and a six. However, his partnership with Rahim, worth 264 runs, eventually came to an end when he was deceived in the air while attempting to drive a delivery. Rahim, meanwhile, went on to score a marathon 163 off 350 balls, showcasing his endurance and skill.

After Shanto's dismissal, Litton Das joined Rahim and piled on further misery for Sri Lanka with a brisk 90 off 123 deliveries. Although he survived some anxious moments, including a near-run-out and a dropped catch, Das's knock ultimately came to an end when he attempted a reverse sweep off debutant Tharindu Ratnayake, gloving it to Kusal Mendis behind the stumps.

The day's play was interrupted by rain shortly after lunch, resulting in only 61 overs being bowled. A persistent drizzle forced an early tea break, and fading light ended the proceedings prematurely. Play will resume 15 minutes early on Thursday to compensate for the lost time.

Current Score: Bangladesh 484/9 at the end of Day 2
