Pakistani speedster Shaheen Afridi allegedly 'misbehaved' with coaches during World Cup: Report

New Delhi: Pakistan seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi allegedly engaged in misconduct with the coaching staff of the Men in Green during their campaign in the 2024 T20 World Cup, as reported by Geo News.
According to the report, Afridi's behaviour towards the coaches and management of the Pakistan Cricket Team was deemed inappropriate. An investigation is currently underway to determine why no action was taken against the 24-year-old despite his alleged misconduct.
The news of Afridi's behaviour surfaced when former Pakistan cricketer Wahab Riaz addressed his removal from the national selection committee established by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
In a statement, PCB confirmed the discontinuation of services for Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz in the national selection committees. Abdul Razzaq served on both the men's and women's selection panels, while Wahab Riaz was a selector for the men's team.
PCB's decision followed Pakistan's early exit from the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, where they failed to progress beyond the Group Stage, suffering defeats against USA and India.
Responding to his removal, Riaz expressed his thoughts on X, stating, "There is much I could say, but I prefer not to engage in blame games."
In addition to his post on X, Riaz shared a letter that emphasised his commitment to serving Pakistani cricket with dedication and sincerity throughout his tenure on the selection committee.
"Each of our opinions carried equal weight, and we collectively made selection decisions, sharing the responsibility equally. It was an honour to contribute to this process," he remarked.
Riaz acknowledged the privilege of supporting head coach Gary Kirsten and the coaching team in implementing their vision for the team's development.
"I am confident that the plans put forth by the coaches will guide the team towards greater success, and I wish them well on this journey. I am grateful for the support and prayers of the people. My best wishes are with the future endeavours of the Pakistan cricket team," Riaz concluded.
Pakistan has announced the restructuring of its selection committee, with details regarding its composition set to be disclosed soon. Wahab Riaz previously served as Chief Selector before returning as one of seven members on the men's selection committee. He also accompanied the Pakistan squad to the T20 World Cup as the senior team manager. ANI
