PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi skips India trip, set to join ICC Board Meeting online: Reports

Ahmedabad: Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi will not travel to India for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Annual Board Meeting on May 31, which is scheduled alongside the Indian Premier League (IPL) final.

However, cricket officials confirmed that the PCB chief will participate in the ICC Board of Directors session virtually, utilising a video-conference option standardly provided to member delegates who cannot attend in person.

Naqvi, who concurrently serves as a senior minister within the Pakistani government, was widely anticipated to skip the trip across the border. According to a report by Sportstar, his digital attendance complies fully with established ICC protocols.

The governing body had originally planned to convene the meeting in Doha last month. That session was postponed as a result of the ongoing geopolitical crisis in West Asia. The rescheduled meeting in Ahmedabad is expected to centre on the future international cricket calendar, structural governance, and commercial matters, with executives from all major global cricket boards slated to attend.

Naqvi continues to hold leverage among administrators in Asian cricket, bolstered by his dual responsibility as the chairman of the Asian Cricket Council. He was a key figure during the turbulent period following the Asia Cup final last year—a logistical and administrative controversy that ultimately concluded with the Indian team returning home without the championship trophy, despite having defeated Pakistan in the tournament's decisive match.
