Having clinched the five-match T20I series with a commanding 3–0 lead, India head into the fourth game against New Zealand with momentum firmly on their side.

The contest at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam, however, is far from meaningless, with several selection calls and form concerns still under the scanner ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Chief among India’s worries is the form of Sanju Samson. Handed the wicketkeeper-opener role ahead of Shubman Gill, Samson has failed to justify the management’s faith, registering scores of 10, 6, and a golden duck so far.

With Ishan Kishan in red-hot form and waiting in the wings, the pressure on the 31-year-old has intensified, making this match a potential turning point for his T20I future.

India could also use the opportunity to reshuffle their bowling attack. Spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakaravarthy have struggled for consistency, opening the door for Axar Patel or Ravi Bishnoi on a surface that traditionally slows down under lights.

Workload management will be another priority, with Hardik Pandya a possible candidate for rest, given his injury history.

New Zealand, meanwhile, is desperate to avoid a whitewash. Their batting has been inconsistent, relying heavily on Glenn Phillips and Mitchell Santner to rescue innings.

The return of Lockie Ferguson provides a timely boost, especially against India’s aggressive top order. James Neesham’s all-round abilities also add balance to the visiting side.

The Visakhapatnam pitch is expected to offer good bounce early before aiding spinners later, with dew likely to play a role during the chase. Toss could once again be crucial.

Match Prediction

India start as clear favourites given their depth, form, and home advantage. Even with a rotated squad, the Men in Blue are likely to outgun New Zealand.
