Building India's pace battery: BCCI hosts camp before domestic season begins
Bengaluru: With the 2025/26 domestic season set to begin with the Duleep Trophy on Aug 28, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has conducted a fast bowling development camp at its Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru.
As part of the camp, 22 pacers, 14 targeted bowlers and eight from the under-19 group, underwent an intensive programme covering multiple aspects of fast bowling, both skill-based and fitness-oriented.
“At the BCCI Centre of Excellence, 14 targeted and eight under-19 fast bowlers took part in the Fast Bowling Development Programme, which has been a key initiative in the last few years. In addition to the players going through fitness evaluations, they also worked on skill ennancement and tactical acumen buliding under the Tutelage of Mr. Troy Cooley the Fast Bowling Coach at BCCI COE, ensuring comprehensive preparation for the season ahead,” the BCCI said in a video posted on its X account on Sunday.
The video featured Harshit Rana and Anshul Kamboj, who made his Test debut during the England tour, going through various drills. Also in attendance were Simarjeet Singh, Tushar Deshpande, Suryansh Shedge, Gurjapneet Singh and Yudhvir Singh Charak.
Interestingly, Suyash Sharma and Shreyas Iyer were also spotted at the COE, suggesting they were undergoing routine fitness testing. It is also believed that Vijaykumar Vyshak, Khaleel Ahmed, Yash Thakur and Raj Bawa took part in the camp.
From a broader perspective, the programme aims to expand India’s frontline fast-bowling pool to provide greater support for senior pacers Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami in future international series and tournaments.
