‘We have won the war’: Trump claims Iran’s military ‘totally defeated’

US President Donald Trump has claimed that the United States has “won the war” against Iran, asserting that the country’s military capabilities have been effectively wiped out.
Speaking during a swearing-in ceremony for the Secretary of Homeland Security, Trump said Iran’s navy, air force and communications systems had been “completely decimated”.
“We’re in negotiations right now… their navy’s gone, their air force is gone… pretty much everything they have is gone,” he said, suggesting Tehran is now seeking a deal.
Trump also claimed that US forces have overwhelming control over Iranian airspace. “We literally have planes flying over Tehran… they can’t do a thing about it,” he said, adding that Iran is “totally defeated” militarily.
Despite the aggressive tone, Trump indicated that diplomatic talks are underway and expressed hope for a resolution without further destruction. “I think we are going to end it… we are in about the best bargaining position,” he said.
The US President further asserted that Iran would not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons, claiming that Tehran has agreed to such terms. “It starts with no nuclear weapons… there won’t be any,” he added.
In a striking claim, Trump also suggested that Iran’s leadership has been dismantled. “The leadership was killed… we have a new group,” he said, calling it a “change in the regime”.
He referred to a “significant” gesture from Iran linked to oil and gas flows, possibly involving the Strait of Hormuz, calling it a sign that Washington is “dealing with the right people”.
However, Trump made it clear that he remains cautious. “I don’t trust anybody… I don’t trust them,” he said.
His remarks come amid heightened tensions in West Asia, even as backchannel negotiations appear to be gaining momentum.
