Washington DC: In a social media post on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump sharply criticised Western allies, including the United Kingdom and France, accusing them of unwillingness to engage in the ongoing crisis tied to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and urging them to secure their own oil supplies.

The Strait, a critical oil transit route through which about a fifth of global crude is used to flow, has been disrupted amid escalating hostilities with Iran, contributing to global fuel shortages and surging energy prices.

Trump directly addressed nations struggling with jet fuel shortages due to the crisis and criticised them for not joining what he characterised as decisive action, “All of those countries that can't get jet fuel because of the Strait of Hormuz, like the United Kingdom, which refused to get involved in the decapitation of Iran, I have a suggestion for you: Number 1, buy from the U.S., we have plenty, and Number 2, build up some delayed courage, go to the Strait, and just TAKE IT.”

He framed this as advice for nations to become more self‑reliant, sharply signalling that the US might reduce its support if allies do not share the burden.

“You'll have to start learning how to fight for yourself, the U.S.A. won't be there to help you anymore, just like you weren't there for us.”

Trump also singled out France for what he described as “unhelpful” behaviour regarding defence cooperation, “The Country of France wouldn't let planes headed to Israel, loaded up with military supplies, fly over French territory. France has been VERY UNHELPFUL with respect to the "Butcher of Iran," who has been successfully eliminated! The U.S.A. will REMEMBER!!!”

The reference to France relates to recent reports that the government denied the use of its airspace to American planes headed to Israel, loaded with military supplies.
