Trump says he was briefed ahead of Israeli strikes on Iran: Reports

US President Donald Trump has declared that Washington will stand by Israel in the event of any Iranian retaliation following Israel’s latest military actions on Iranian targets.
Speaking to Fox News on Thursday evening, Trump emphasized that the US would respond if Iran launched counterstrikes.
“Our military is ready. Iran will not be allowed to have a nuclear weapon, and if they make a move, we’ll act,” Trump said during the interview.
He also hinted that the US Central Command (CENTCOM) remains on high alert to protect both American assets and its allies in the region.
Nuclear diplomacy still on the table
Despite the increasing tensions, Trump reaffirmed that he is still open to resuming stalled nuclear talks with Tehran. He revealed that discussions may soon resume in Oman, possibly as early as Sunday.
“There’s a path back to the negotiating table, but not everyone currently in Tehran will be involved this time,” Trump noted, suggesting a shift in Iran’s internal leadership could shape the direction of the talks.
Advance knowledge of Israeli strikes
Fox News also reported that Trump was informed of Israel’s operation in advance, and that at least one key Middle Eastern ally had also been alerted prior to the strikes. The United States, however, did not directly engage in the operation.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio reiterated that the US did not participate in the strike itself but has remained closely aligned with Israel on security matters. He also confirmed that the US has recently supplied Israel with fresh shipments of Iron Dome interceptors to bolster its missile defense system.
Regional responses and Airspace concerns
Meanwhile, Jordan issued a stern statement asserting its neutrality in the conflict. A government spokesperson said Amman would not allow its airspace to be used in any military confrontation and would continue to defend its skies if necessary. The statement echoed Jordan’s previous actions in April, when it took defensive measures during a similar escalation.
