Ukraine peace talks on horizon? Putin open to settlement, Zelensky to visit White House

Moscow: The Kremlin confirmed that the content of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent phone call with former US President Donald Trump must remain confidential. During the call on Thursday, Putin indicated that Russia is willing to pursue a settlement in Ukraine according to reports.

Trump is also set to host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House. According to the Kremlin, a summit between Putin and Trump could occur within two weeks or later, with a likely location in Budapest, Hungary.

Trump commented on the call via Truth Social, describing it as “lengthy” and expressing optimism that recent successes in the Middle East could support negotiations to end the Russia–Ukraine war. He stated that he would discuss his conversation with Putin with Zelensky during their White House meeting.

Trump said a meeting with Putin could take place in Budapest, Hungary, in the coming weeks, aiming to bring the “inglorious” war to an end. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will meet Trump at the Oval Office to discuss the situation and Trump’s call with Putin.

Trump emphasised that recent developments in the Middle East could positively influence negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. No specific timeline or formal agenda has been announced for the proposed US–Russia summit.
