Pakistan shuts down mobile internet in Balochistan over security concerns

Karachi: Mobile internet services have been suspended across Pakistan’s Balochistan province, except in the capital city of Quetta, following a security alert issued by the provincial Home Department.

Officials said the suspension, which took effect on Wednesday, will remain in place until November 16. The move comes amid heightened security concerns and what authorities described as “prevailing circumstances” in the region.

In addition to the internet shutdown, travel along the Loralai section of the National Highway N-70 has also been halted for all transport services until November 14.

“The Internet service will remain suspended in the rural areas of the entire province,” officials said, noting that Quetta district will be exempted from the restriction.

Despite the exemption, several users in Quetta reported disruptions in mobile internet connectivity since Wednesday.

All schools in Quetta’s Cantonment area have also been closed until November 16 due to security concerns, according to local authorities.

The Home Department has directed district administrations, police, and other relevant authorities to ensure the immediate enforcement of the suspension order and to arrange alternative measures for public convenience. PTI
