Karachi: Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari has been admitted to a private hospital in Karachi after his health deteriorated, according to a media report.

The 69-year-old leader was brought from Nawabshah, approximately 300 kilometres from Karachi, after reportedly suffering from fever and an infection, The Express Tribune reported on Tuesday.

Doctors conducted multiple medical tests and are closely monitoring his condition, the report added. Zardari had travelled to Nawabshah to offer Eid prayers on Monday. A day earlier, he had attended a meeting with his party leaders, as per local media sources.

Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), the state-run news agency, said on Tuesday that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inquired about President Zardari's health on telephone and prayed for an early recovery for him.
