Iran’s warning to UK: ‘Any base used for attacks will be a legitimate target’
Tehran: Iran has accused the United Kingdom of supporting US military operations against Tehran and warned that British military facilities involved in such actions could face retaliation.
The warning was issued by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which claimed that British bases were being used to assist American strikes after US naval forces allegedly exhausted their cruise missile supplies.
The IRGC said that any UK facility used to launch attacks against Iran would be considered a “legitimate target”. It accused Britain of becoming directly involved in the conflict by allowing its facilities to support US military operations.
Iran alleged that the United States had begun using bases such as RAF Fairford in England for operations linked to the conflict. Tehran argued that providing such support made the UK an active participant rather than a neutral party.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry also criticised Britain’s reported cooperation with Washington, claiming that allowing military facilities to be used for attacks violated international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter.
Tehran accused London of supporting the US and Israel instead of acting in line with its responsibilities as a permanent member of the UN Security Council. Iranian officials said the country would defend its sovereignty and hold any party involved in military action responsible for the consequences.
The warning followed reports that British facilities, including RAF Fairford and the Diego Garcia military base in the Indian Ocean, were being made available for US operations. Iran has repeatedly criticised Western military involvement in the region and has pointed to past disputes, including tensions linked to sanctions and nuclear-related issues.
The latest development comes as tensions between Iran, the US and Israel continue to rise. Military exchanges and threats have increased fears of a wider regional conflict, with Iran warning that any continued attacks could lead to strikes on strategic infrastructure, including energy facilities.
The situation remains closely monitored as diplomatic efforts continue to prevent further escalation in the Middle East.
