Jailed Pak Ex-PM Imran Khan taken for follow-up eye treatment at PIMS, returned to Adiala Jail

Islamabad/Rawalpindi: Pakistan’s jailed former prime minister Imran Khan was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on Tuesday for follow-up treatment of a right eye condition before being returned to prison the same day, hospital and party officials said.
According to a spokesperson for PIMS, the 74-year-old former premier underwent his fourth intravitreal anti-VEGF injection as part of ongoing treatment for right central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), a condition diagnosed in late January.
The spokesperson said Khan was clinically stable before the procedure. “Optical coherence tomography was performed, which showed clinical improvement,” he said, adding that the injection was administered under microscopic guidance by ophthalmology specialists.
Khan remained medically stable throughout his visit and was discharged after the procedure with instructions for continued care and follow-up, the hospital added.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder had last received a similar treatment on March 23, with doctors recommending monthly injections to manage his eye condition.
Following the procedure on Tuesday, Khan was transferred back to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, where he has been detained since his conviction in the Al-Qadir Trust case last year.
PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan confirmed the hospital visit in a post on social media platform X, reiterating concerns over Khan’s medical care. The party has repeatedly demanded that the former prime minister be treated at a private medical facility under the supervision of his personal doctors and in the presence of family members.
“Whatever the treatment, our concern remains unanswered,” Gohar said, calling access to preferred medical care a fundamental right.
Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, is also currently incarcerated at Adiala Jail. She recently underwent eye surgery at a hospital in Rawalpindi on April 17 before being returned to custody. Both Khan and his wife are serving sentences following their convictions in corruption-related cases.
The PTI has continued to raise concerns over the medical treatment and conditions provided to its founder and his spouse, while authorities maintain that they are receiving appropriate care at designated government facilities.
