A new development has emerged in the Coldplay ‘Kiss Cam’ scandal involving ex-Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and former HR head Kristin Cabot, raising fresh questions about the viral incident that gripped social media in 2025.

The original Kiss Cam controversy

The scandal began when a video from a Coldplay concert in Boston went viral, showing Byron and Cabot “caught” on the big screen of the Kiss Cam, seemingly in a cosy moment. Their awkward expressions and attempts to duck from the camera sparked widespread speculation online that they were cheating on their respective partners.

Coldplay’s lead singer, Chris Martin, added to the buzz, commenting live: "Oh look at these two," and later, "Oh what… either they’re having an affair or they’re very shy," seemingly reacting to their discomfort. Both Byron and Cabot resigned from Astronomer following the uproar.

Divorce and earlier reports

At the time, reports suggested that Kristin Cabot’s husband, Andrew Cabot, a sixth-generation heir to the Privateer Rum fortune, was abroad on a business trip in Japan, leading to assumptions that she had been unfaithful. Kristin filed for divorce from Andrew in August, shortly after the incident.

New revelations

However, a recent report by PEOPLE has revealed that Andrew Cabot was actually present at the same Coldplay concert with his own date. According to the report, "He was in fact at the same Coldplay concert as Kristin. They had been separated and living apart for several weeks. It was amicable. Kristin was in the box with people from work, though it wasn’t a company box, and Andrew was actually there too with a date, with a woman who is now his girlfriend."

The report adds that Kristin has felt constrained from speaking publicly, saying, "Kristin has felt like she can’t speak out as people in the middle of a divorce can’t say anything public."

Clarifying the relationship

The source told PEOPLE that the relationship between Kristin and Byron was purely professional: "Kristin and CEO Andy Byron were just friends," and described the incident as an awkward hug rather than a romantic affair. "It was not that she was caught cheating, it was not some affair. She fully acknowledges (the hug) was inappropriate, but that was the only inappropriate thing she did," the source said.

Social media fallout

The video’s viral spread had made the incident the biggest internet controversy of 2025, with speculation about cheating dominating headlines and social platforms. The revelation that both parties were separated weeks before the Kiss Cam incident adds nuance, suggesting that the scandal may have been overblown.
