Omaha: An American Airlines flight bound for Los Angeles was forced to return to Omaha less than 40 minutes after take-off on Monday, following a false alarm involving a suspected cockpit breach.

Pilots on board Flight 6469 mistakenly believed someone was attempting to break into the cockpit. However, the incident was later confirmed to be a misunderstanding caused by an intercom being inadvertently left on. According to an American Airlines spokesperson, the static noise heard by the flight crew was misinterpreted as a potential security threat.

The aircraft, an Embraer ERJ 175, was being operated by SkyWest Airlines, which handles regional routes for American Airlines and other carriers. The flight landed safely back at Omaha Eppley Airfield without incident.

The Omaha Airport Authority confirmed that there was no actual security breach or threat at the airport and directed further enquiries to the airline.
