Tata Advanced Systems Limited to establish maintenance facility in Karnataka for IAF’s C-130J fleet

Just as Karnataka continues to solidify its position as a preferred destination for aerospace and defence investments and innovation with initiatives like ‘Invest Karnataka,’ Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) is all set to expand its operations in Karnataka with a new state-of-the-art Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility to support the Indian Air Force's Lockheed Martin's C-130J fleet, strengthening India's self-reliance in defence and bolstering Karnataka's role in the global aerospace supply chain.

The new maintenance facility will be a JV with Lockheed Martin. In September 2024, the two companies had signed an MoU to deepen their collaboration on the C-130J Super Hercules tactical airlifter of the IAF. The agreement primarily focused on two primary areas of cooperation: the establishment of an MRO and the potential expansion of manufacturing and assembly operations for the C-130J.

While Lockheed Martin is planning to expand its C-130J manufacturing and assembly in India, it is subject to approval from both the US and Indian governments and based on whether Lockheed Martin is awarded the MTA contract.
