As of today, petrol in Mumbai costs ₹103.50 per litre, with no change from yesterday. Prices across India have remained stable for the past 11 months, rather unchanged since December 1, 2024. In other metro cities, petrol costs ₹94.77 in New Delhi, ₹105.41 in Kolkata, ₹100.90 in Chennai, and ₹107.46 in Hyderabad. Minor fluctuations were seen in some cities such as Gurgaon (-₹0.12), Noida (+₹0.35), and Jaipur (-₹0.31).

In Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, the petrol price stands at approximately ₹107.48 per litre, and has remained unchanged in recent days.

Petrol prices in India are determined by a mix of global crude oil rates, domestic taxation, and currency exchange movements. The country’s fuel prices are notably higher than those in several neighbouring nations, largely due to heavy central and state taxes. Despite investments in refining and exploration to strengthen internal supply, India’s dependence on crude oil imports continues to influence retail fuel prices. As demand for petrol in a developing economy grows, price trends remain sensitive to international market shifts, government duties, and policy decisions that shape the overall fuel cost structure.

Diesel

As of today, diesel in Mumbai costs ₹90.03 per litre, with no change from yesterday. Prices across India have remained rather steady for the past 11 months, unchanged since 1 December 2024. Diesel prices are revised daily—a system implemented on 15 June 2017—replacing the earlier fortnightly revision cycle. This daily adjustment helps reflect real-time changes in global crude prices and reduces sudden shocks for consumers.

In major metro cities, diesel prices are ₹87.67 in New Delhi, ₹92.02 in Kolkata, ₹92.49 in Chennai, and ₹95.70 in Hyderabad. Minor variations were seen in Gurgaon (-₹0.12), Noida (+₹0.40), Jaipur (-₹0.28), and Patna (+₹0.02). In Thiruvananthapuram, diesel currently costs ₹96.48 per litre, among the highest rates in the country.

Diesel prices in India are influenced by a range of factors including international crude oil rates, exchange rate fluctuations, and central and state taxes. The government determines the overall framework, while oil companies adjust retail prices daily based on market trends. Despite domestic production and refining capacities, India’s dependence on crude imports means global price shifts directly impact consumers, making careful monitoring of diesel prices essential for both the economy and end users.
