Worm infested rice, used clothes in relief kits for Wayanad landslide survivors | WATCH

Residents of Meppadi village in Wayanad have raised serious complaints after receiving relief kits containing worm-infested rice, stale maida, and used clothes. The kits, which were meant to help survivors of the recent landslide, were found to be in poor condition when opened. The survivors also reported that the clothes they received were old.

One survivor said, "We received the kits yesterday evening. When we opened it at home, we found worms in the rice and maida. The clothes were also used ones. If we are given something, it should be of good quality. Otherwise, we would prefer not to receive anything."

In response to the situation, some villagers threw the stale items and used clothes inside the village office as a sign of protest. The relief kits were provided by the Revenue Department to the Meppadi Panchayat before Onam, but the items were distributed without any quality checks.

Protests against UDF-led Panchayat

The DYFI has taken up the cause and organised protests against the UDF-led Panchayat, which is being blamed for the distribution of the substandard aid. Protesters are demanding better quality relief materials and accountability from local authorities.
