‘Who said she resigned?’ TVM Mayor dismisses reports as BJP finds relief in Sreelekha’s stay

Thiruvananthapuram: Bringing relief to the BJP leadership following a day of political speculation, senior party leaders and Thiruvananthapuram Mayor V V Rajesh have firmly denied reports that former IPS officer R Sreelekha had resigned from her position as municipal councillor.
The claim came after BJP state general secretary S Suresh visited Sreelekha at a private hospital, where she is currently recovering from health complications, and shared an official update on social media.
Health concerns and administrative support
Clarifying the nature of her recent communication, BJP leaders emphasized that Sreelekha had merely conveyed operational anxieties related to her health and ward responsibilities.
According to S Suresh, Sreelekha had been experiencing physical discomfort over recent days and expressed concern over whether she could fully execute her duties as an elected representative.
Mayor V V Rajesh refuted claims that he had received a resignation letter, stating that the document was a routine request seeking administrative assistance to streamline ward activities.
The Mayor reassured that Sreelekha would complete her full five-year tenure as mandated by the electorate, noting that the party would resolve any council-related operational concerns.
Party defends Sreelekha’s integrity
S Suresh strongly criticised media speculation suggesting that Kerala's first female DGP was bargaining with the party for higher political positions.
He highlighted Sreelekha’s dedication as BJP state vice president, noting that she stepped into local governance upon the party's request and has been utilising her personal pension funds to serve the residents of her ward Vattiyoorkavu.
