Kochi: Actor Vinayakan was arrested Tuesday night for allegedly creating a ruckus at the police station. He had earlier called the police to his home following a dispute with his wife. Unhappy with how the police dealt with the issue, Vinayakan followed the police to the station to lodge a complaint.

In the video surfaced on the internet, Vinayakan is seen talking to policemen inside the Ernakulam town police station.

“I want to know who the woman who came into my flat along with the uniformed officers was. I asked her and she said she is a police officer. I asked for her ID but she didn't show me any,” Vinayakan is heard saying to a police officer.

“You are the officer who told me to approach the police if there is any problem,” Vinayakan said. In reply the officer shouted at him, “and didn’t the police come? (to his residence)?”

Vinayakan asked him why he was shouting unnecessarily.

“And they did nothing after coming there,” Vinayakan said. “What do you want us to do?” replied the officer.

“You took away my property. My phone was snatched away. But there was no action on the complaints I filed,” said Vinayakan. The officer replied that the phone was submitted to the court. Vinayakan’s phone was confiscated a few months ago in a complaint that he abused former Kerala chief minister late Oommen Chandy.

“Anyway, I am not here for that. I will come tomorrow. What I want now is to know the identity of the woman who came to my home today,” Vinayakan said. Both the actor and officer were shouting at each other by this moment.

“Who are you to demand us to show our ID card,” asked the officer. The officer argued that since she was accompanied by other members of the force, she didn’t need to show her ID.

“Why did you challenge the police officers,” he asked.

Vinayakan replied that he did not challenge anyone but asked questions.

“They are not your servants. They have so much work,” the officer replied.

He added that the actor can file a complaint to higher authorities if he was not satisfied with the reply.

When another officer said that Vinayakan was creating a scene under the influence of alcohol, Vinayakan retorted by saying that he has been drunk for five years and does not expect to come out of the state anytime soon.

Vinayakan was booked under Kerala Police Act 118 A and 117 E for creating nuisance in public space in an inebriated condition and threatening police officers on duty. He was also fined for smoking in public space after he allegedly lit a cigarette at the police station premises.

Meanwhile, several social media handles slammed the police officer for shouting at Vinayakan and addressing him disrespectfully. They argued that if it was any other actor from the industry, the police would have dealt with him with respect, addressing him “sir.” Vinayakan was treated differently due to his caste, they noted.
