Vannappuram, Idukki (Kerala): A BJP leader allegedly threatened police during a march in front of the Kaliyar Police Station in Vannappuram on Tuesday.

The protest was reportedly organised in response to a case filed against 20 BJP workers for allegedly attempting to cause a public disturbance on October 3.

BJP Vannappuram Mandalam General Secretary Adv. G. Suresh Kumar is said to have made threatening remarks during a speech.

He reportedly warned that police could be beaten if they unnecessarily targeted BJP workers, even stating that they could be assaulted inside the police station if needed. “Previously, we have entered the police station and beaten (cops). If necessary, we will do it again,” he allegedly said.

Suresh Kumar also allegedly mentioned that if the police tried to take action against BJP workers after hearing CPM district secretary CV Varghese and Karimannoor area secretary PP Sumeesh, the police would be “handled” accordingly.

The October 3 bike rally was organised to protest alleged corruption in the UDF-governed Vannappuram Panchayat and the LDF-controlled Vannappuram Cooperative Bank. On the same day, the LDF held a protest in the town against the panchayat administration.

The march reportedly created a loud disturbance, prompting the LDF to file a complaint and register a case against the BJP workers.
