Wayanad landslide: 10 bodies identified, rescue operations continue

Kalpetta: Over 70 people have been reported dead so far in the devastating landslide that hit Mundakkai and Chooralmala in Wayanad early Tuesday morning. Of them, 10 people have been identified, reports state.

The deceased have been identified as Ramlath (53) from Chooralmala, Ashraf (49) from Chooralmala, Lenin of Lenin Nivas, Kunhimoideen (65) of Kalathingal house, Premaleela of Mattath house, Regina of Erakkadan house, Vijeesh (37), Sumesh (35) of Punchirivattom, Salam (39) Padikkaparambil House, Shreya (19) of Shreya Nivas. 

Numerous people are feared trapped and several stranded in the affected areas. Rescue operations are underway despite the unfavourable climatic conditions. 
Heavy rainfall continues to affect the area, and the bridge connecting Chooralmala to Mundakkai has been washed away, making it difficult to reach the area. A 20-member team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed at Mundakkai. However, due to the collapsed bridge, additional rescue workers are unable to reach the area. At this time, there is no information available about the extent of the landslide in Mundakkai.
