Veena George orders probe into sexual assault of lady doctor

Kochi: Minister Veena George has instructed the Director of Health Department to launch an investigation into the sexual harassment allegations levelled against a senior doctor at the Ernakulam general hospital. These allegations were brought forward by a female doctor who served as a house surgeon at the hospital in 2019.

In the complaint, the lady doctor accused the doctor of allegedly kissing her forcibly. She also shared her account of the incident on Facebook. Veena George asked the director of the health department to report the incident to the police. An investigation by the vigilance wing of the health department is underway.

The doctor who is currently staying in a foreign country lodged her complaint via email, with copies being sent to the health department director and the hospital superintendent. The accused doctor is still continuing in service.
