Thiruvananthapuram: In a notable result from the local body elections, UDF candidate Vyshna Suresh won in the Muttaada ward, a sitting seat previously held by the CPM.

Vyshna described her victory as a triumph of democracy and the people’s recognition of their struggles, saying it reflected the support given by the electorate after acknowledging their hardships.

Vyshna, who was formerly the KSU unit president at Government Women’s College, Thiruvananthapuram, contested the union elections as a chairperson candidate.

The Election Commission had removed the name of Vyshna from the voters list for the Muttada ward in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation election. However, the Commission later restored her name in the voters’ list of Ward No. 27, Muttada, Part No. 5, enabling her to contest as the Congress candidate after she moved the High Court.

The Kerala High Court pulled up officials for removing her name from the voters’ list, calling the action “unfair” and “deeply unjust” as she campaigned for the Muttada Ward in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.
