Kochi: Train operations in Ernakulam have been disrupted from Tuesday, March 17, following renovation work on the second platform at Ernakulam Junction Railway Station. The maintenance work is scheduled to continue until March 26, affecting several passenger and express services across Kerala.

Delay in Chennai–Alappuzha express

The MGR Chennai–Alappuzha Daily Express (22639), departing from MGR Chennai Central, will run approximately 30 minutes late until March 25 due to the ongoing work.

MEMU services partially cancelled

The Palakkad–Ernakulam MEMU (66609), which departs Palakkad at 7:20 AM, will terminate at Aluva between March 18 and 26. There will be no service between Aluva and Ernakulam during this period.

Similarly, the Ernakulam–Palakkad MEMU (66610), scheduled to leave Ernakulam Junction at 2:45 PM, will instead begin its journey from Aluva from March 18 to 26.

Passenger train curtailed

The Guruvayoor–Ernakulam Passenger (56317), departing at 1:25 PM, will terminate at Edappally between March 17 and 26, skipping the final stretch to Ernakulam.

Other key service changes

The Kollam–Ernakulam MEMU service will terminate at Tripunithura from March 17 to 26, instead of reaching Ernakulam Junction.

The Thiruvananthapuram–Ernakulam Vanchinad Express (16304), departing at 5:45 PM, will be curtailed at Kottayam during the same period.

Meanwhile, the Ernakulam–Kannur Intercity Express (16305), scheduled to depart at 6:00 AM, will originate from Aluva instead of Ernakulam between March 17 and 26. There will be no train service between Ernakulam and Aluva for this route.

Advisory for passengers

Passengers travelling through Ernakulam are advised to check updated schedules and plan their journeys accordingly, as multiple services have been either partially cancelled or rescheduled due to the station upgrade work.
