Thrissur (Kerala): A team led by Collector Arjun Pandian and City Police Commissioner R Ilango inspected the venues at Thekkinkadu Maidanam on Friday, where the Thrissur Pooram ceremonies are set to take place. The visit was part of a comprehensive review of the arrangements being made for the festival.

Earlier, a coordination meeting was chaired by the Collector, involving department heads and representatives from the Devaswom boards. The session focused on evaluating the readiness of various departments involved in organising the Pooram.

A mock drill is scheduled for Saturday at Thekkinkadu Maidanam, organised by the District Disaster Management Authority. In light of the recent Pahalgam attack, police will step up drone surveillance as a security measure. Strict enforcement will be in place against the use of fake Pooram passes.

To maintain cleanliness, the Suchitwa Mission will oversee the installation of bottle booths and waste bins at designated intervals. Arrangements are also underway to ensure the availability of sufficient e-toilets for the public.

Key areas such as traffic regulation, law and order, deployment of medical teams, ambulances, stretchers, and personnel from the police, fire and health departments were also reviewed during the meeting. Officials from the Food Safety Department were directed to ensure hygienic food practices during the festival period.

Those present at the review included City Police Commissioner R. Ilango, Additional District Magistrate T. Murali, Sub-Collector Akhil V. Menon, representatives from the Cochin Devaswom Board, Paramekkavu and Thiruvambady Devaswom, along with officials from various government departments.
