For most fans, celebrating a celebrity’s big moment means posting a tribute online, watching the event on television, or maybe travelling a few hours for a glimpse. But one couple from Kerala decided to take fandom to a completely different level. Armed with backpacks, tents, and plenty of determination, they began walking from Malappuram to Chennai, covering nearly 650 kilometres, all for one dream. To meet their idol, actor-turned-politician Vijay.

KS Mohammed Rafi, a professional driver, and his wife CP Ummu Shahanamol from Tanur set off on their extraordinary journey on Thursday. Their destination is Chennai, where Vijay took oath as the 9th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 10, 2026, after leading TVK to a landmark electoral win.

The couple’s journey is far from easy. Battling harsh heat, sudden rain, and physical exhaustion, they continue their trek step by step with backpacks and tents in tow. Their route takes them through Palakkad before entering Tamil Nadu and moving steadily towards Chennai.

What has truly caught people’s attention online is the sincerity behind their mission. The pair have been documenting every part of their journey on Instagram through daily vlogs, giving followers an honest look at life on the road. From aching legs and sleepless nights to moments of kindness from strangers, their videos have struck an emotional chord with viewers.

“We always wanted to see Vijay in person”

Speaking in one of their vlogs, the couple explained how their admiration for Vijay began long before politics entered the picture.

“We have always admired the characters Vijay portrayed in films. We had long wished to see him in person,” they shared.

That admiration only grew stronger after Vijay launched his political party and went on to secure a historic election victory.

“When Vijay started preparing to become the chief minister, our wish to meet him became even stronger. That is when we decided to walk all the way to Chennai,” they added.

No clear plan, just faith

Interestingly, the couple admits they have no fixed plan on how they will actually meet Vijay once they reach Chennai. Yet that uncertainty has not shaken their determination. They continue to trust that something will work out once they arrive in the city.

Each night, they stop wherever they can find a safe place to rest before resuming their walk again at sunrise. Their simple yet determined approach has become one of the most talked-about fan stories online.

Social media cheers them on

Social media has completely embraced their story. Fans from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and several other places have flooded their Instagram reels with emotional messages and words of encouragement. Many have described them as “real Thalapathy fans”, while others have offered food, accommodation, and even financial support to help them complete the trip.

Their journey has now become more than just a fan pilgrimage. For many online, it represents passion, loyalty, and the belief that sometimes dreams are worth walking hundreds of kilometres for.
