Supplyco enforces GST, price hiked for 16 commodities

Thiruvananthapuram: The price of essential commodities, which does not come under subsidy in Supplyco, has been hiked. An increase of Rs 1.60 to Rs 6 has been recorded for the grains except rice, with the induction of 5 per cent GST. The Chief Minister will consider whether the price hike, according to Goods and Services Tax, have to be implemented for commodities sold under subsidy.
A rise of Rs 4.40 to Rs 5.40 has been implemented in the cost of 1 kilogram of green gram, Rs 5.10 and Rs 4.20 raised for black gram and chickpeas while the price of Thur dhal increased from Rs 5.10 to Rs 6. A hike of Rs 3.40 was noted for green peas.
The price of subsidised grains which were selling at the same rate for the past six years will continue to remain same. The state government will have to incur an additional monthly financial burden of Rs 25 crore, if it took responsibility for the GST share of subsidised commodities.
