Statewide protests erupt in Kerala demanding Health Minister Veena George’s resignation

Thiruvananthapuram: Following the death of a woman who was with her daughter during the medical college building collapse in Kottayam, there has been widespread protest against Health Minister Veena George. Various organisations have taken out protest marches to Kottayam Medical College and the minister's official residence in Thiruvananthapuram. They are demanding the minister's resignation. Heavy police security had been deployed at the health minister's residence and office in anticipation of the possibility of protests.

Police used water cannons during the BJP march in Thiruvananthapuram. The police used water cannons after activists tried to break through the barricade. The protests against the Health Minister in Thiruvananthapuram were on the issues related to the fire that broke out at Kozhikode Medical College, the revelations of Dr Haris, the head of the urology department at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, and the death of a woman who had come with her sick daughter died after a building collapsed at Kottayam Medical College. Heavy security was deployed at the site by the police.
The Mahila Congress protested in front of the Secretariat annex. A BJP protest was also held in Kollam. There was also a Muslim League protest in Thrissur. A protest was also held in Kottayam under the leadership of the Youth Congress. Earlier, there were protests against the minister in Kollam and Pathanamthitta.

Protests against the Health Minister are intensifying across the state. There have been calls within the CPM itself against Veena George, saying that she is not even worthy of being a minister or an MLA. Meanwhile, it is reported that the party is planning to take action against those who posted against the minister. The opposition has decided to hold statewide protests demanding the resignation of the Health Minister. The KPCC has called for a panchayat-based protest led by all constituency committees.
