Karnataka landslide: One more body found, search for Arjun enters 8th day

Ankola: While the search for Arjun, who went missing after the landslide in Shiroor, continues, the body of a woman who went missing in the landslide was found. The deceased has been identified as Sanna Hanumanthappa. The body was found in the Gangavali river in a decomposed state. A total of four people including Arjun have been missing in the landslide.
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) had handed over satellite visuals of the area where Arjun went missing. The visuals, taken at 6 am on the day of the landslide, did not show any trace of Arjun or his lorry.
Yesterday, searches were conducted in areas where signals were detected after deploying a Deep Search Detector. However, the search was futile as nothing was found in these areas. The army eventually confirmed that Arjun and his lorry might not be on land and could have been swept into the river. On the eighth day, an intensified search will occur in the Gangavali River after a signal was detected 40 meters off the shore. The navy is set to lead the rescue missions today.
Scuba divers will initially inspect the dunes in the river. Following this, inspections will be made at the river bottom. Intermittent rains may pose a challenge to the rescue missions.
On the seventh day, the search for Arjun faced a brief setback due to a dispute between Malayali rescue workers and Karnataka police. The disagreement arose when Karnataka police limited the number of Malayali rescuers to 20. Authorities cited heavy rainfall and potential landslides as reasons for this restriction. Renjith Israel, a rescue worker, confirmed that tensions eased after discussions with the Superintendent of Police, allowing rescue efforts to continue smoothly.
