Accused in Riyas Maulavi murder case set free by Kasaragod court

Kasaragod: Three persons accused of murdering a Madrasa teacher at Choori in Kasaragod have been set free by the court. Charges against RSS workers Ajesh (aka Appu), Nithin Kumar and Akhilesh, who allegedly killed Riyas Maulavi, were dismissed by the Kasaragod principal sessions court.

The one-sentence verdict allowing the accused to walk free was issued earlier in the morning. However, the action committee seeking justice for the deceased teacher has vowed to move the higher court seeking a fair trial.  

Karnataka native Mohammed Riyas Maulavi, who was teaching at a Madrasa in Choori, was brutally murdered in the early morning on 21 March 2017. Perpetrators allegedly barged into his room and hacked him to death.

The accused who were denied bail were in judicial custody so far. Several people were briefed at the court in connection with the case. The trial pertaining to the case was wrapped up two months ago and the verdict was finally issued sometime ago.
